Online Volunteer, Website Development and Maintenance

UNHCR Tanzania is recruiting an Online Volunteer to support its digital communication strategy through website development and maintenance. The successful candidate will work remotely to maintain and update web content, pages, and multimedia resources, while assisting in the development of new web pages and features aligned with organisational requirements. The volunteer will monitor website functionality, troubleshoot technical issues, and optimize performance, accessibility, and responsiveness across devices and browsers. Additional responsibilities include implementing design improvements to enhance user experience, ensuring website security through updates and best practices, supporting the integration of web forms, plugins, and digital tools, and preparing technical documentation with recommendations for ongoing improvements.

The role requires university-level studies or professional experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, or a related field, along with proven experience in website development, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and content management systems such as WordPress or Drupal, alongside knowledge of responsive design, website optimization, and accessibility standards. Familiarity with website security best practices, including updates, backups, and vulnerability mitigation, is expected, and experience with version control tools such as Git is an asset. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently in a remote environment, and excellent communication skills are essential.
