Project Coordinator, Women Entrepreneurship Development
About this role
The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), in partnership with the Government of Spain through the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID), established the NEPAD Spanish Fund for African Women's Empowerment in 2007 to address the development and gender concerns of disadvantaged women across the continent. The Fund aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 on gender equality, Agenda 2063 Goals 17 and 18, and the African Union Gender Policy. The SADC Secretariat is now recruiting a Project Coordinator to manage the Women Entrepreneurship Development Project at its headquarters in Gaborone, Botswana. The Project Coordinator will provide overall leadership and technical guidance for the implementation of project activities, ensuring alignment with regional and continental gender frameworks.
Core responsibilities include overseeing project planning, monitoring, and reporting processes, coordinating with implementing partners and stakeholders across SADC member states, managing project budgets and resources in compliance with AECID funding requirements, and ensuring timely delivery of outputs in line with the project's strategic objectives. The role also involves building the capacity of women entrepreneurs through mentorship, training, and access to markets and financing, as well as promoting knowledge-sharing and good practices across the region. Applicants must hold a relevant bachelor's degree, with a master's degree considered an added advantage, and possess between five and seven years of progressively responsible experience in project coordination or programme management within a regional or international organisation. Demonstrated experience in designing and managing gender-responsive or women empowerment initiatives is essential, along with strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
Familiarity with AUDA-NEPAD, SADC, or African Union frameworks and experience working with EU or AECID-funded programmes will be highly regarded. The position is classified at Grade 4 with an average annual package ranging from USD 93,097 to USD 99,643 and is open to nationals of all SADC member states.
