Public Health
Technical Advisor, Community-Based Health Services
About this role
Jhpiego is recruiting a Technical Advisor for Community-Based Health Services to support the AFGHS project, a U.S. Department of State funded initiative delivering maternal, newborn and child health and malaria services across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. Based in Dar es Salaam, the post-holder provides technical guidance for integrated and sustainable community health services aligned with national policies and approved minimum intervention packages for community health workers. The Advisor oversees community-based MNCH and malaria interventions, including insecticide-treated net distribution, and supports integration of community health workers into government health systems.
Day-to-day work includes participatory mapping and micro-planning, guiding community-based testing, prevention, treatment, referral, follow-up and surveillance, and coordinating with health facilities on last-mile commodity delivery. The role strengthens government-led selection, training, deployment and supervision of community health workers, promotes community engagement and demand generation, and uses supervision findings to close performance gaps. The Advisor also oversees civil society organisation subgrants, reviewing scopes of work, budgets and indicators and monitoring progress against payment-linked deliverables. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in community development, public health, health promotion, social sciences, communications or a related field.
Candidates need six to seven years of progressively responsible experience in community-based health programmes involving CORPs and CHWs, plus at least five years managing programme functions or supervising field teams. Demonstrated experience with integrated community-based MNCH and malaria services, supportive supervision, quality improvement and referral systems is essential, alongside fluency in English and Kiswahili and familiarity with U.S. Government reporting. Preferred experience includes community-based ITN distribution or comparable large-scale commodity distribution.
This is a full-time local position in Dar es Salaam with travel of up to 25 to 30 percent, and Jhpiego offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package. Applications close on 19 October 2026 and should be submitted through the Jhpiego careers portal as a single document containing a cover letter, resume and references.
