Public Health
Senior Program Officer
About this role
Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University affiliate, is recruiting a Senior Program Officer to support the AFGHS project, a U.S. Department of State funded initiative delivering lifesaving maternal, newborn and child health and malaria services across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. The post is based in Dar es Salaam on a full-time local contract and works closely with the Senior Program Manager and Field Team Leaders. The Senior Program Officer coordinates day-to-day implementation of AFGHS activities across the MNCH and malaria components.

The role maintains project documentation and records in SharePoint, contributes to routine project, donor and government reporting, and supports audit and compliance readiness. The work also involves government engagement, sustainability and transition: facilitating government co-design and co-implementation, tracking agreed transition milestones, and supporting progressive transfer of functions to government and local structures.
Candidates must hold a master's degree in public health, public administration, project management or a related field, with at least five to six years of progressive experience in management support, program coordination or project management within a donor-funded health program. Fluency in English and Kiswahili, written and spoken, is mandatory. Preferred attributes include planning and negotiation skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
Jhpiego offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive employee benefits package. Applications must be submitted through www.jhpiego.org/careers as a single document combining cover letter, resume and references, and the position closes on 15 October 2026.
