Project Assistant

Raising The Village

About this role

Raising The Village (RTV) is recruiting four Project Assistants for its Implementation department in Kyerwa, Tanzania. RTV is an international development organisation working to eradicate ultra-poverty across Uganda, Rwanda, the DRC and Tanzania. Reporting to a Project Officer, the post-holders will help deliver community programmes that raise household incomes. Each assistant will live and work in a different ward and spend about 80 percent of their time travelling, hiking high terrain to reach partner communities.

The day-to-day work centres on implementation. Assistants hold design review meetings with partner villages and feed back so that designs and budgets can be updated before rollout. They co-facilitate training on financial literacy, behaviour change, water and sanitation, village savings and loan associations, agriculture, livestock care and health outreaches. They prepare lists of goods and services for procurement, verify inputs before distribution, and follow up with community groups and households to ensure compliance.

They flag risks, propose mitigation measures, and meet local leadership to discuss performance and perceptions of RTV projects. Administratively, the role involves managing work plans, submitting weekly field reports, contributing to donor reporting and proposal writing, attending staff and cluster meetings, and completing weekly financial requests and accountabilities for the Senior Project Officer. Assistants also photograph activities for the data repository and give monitoring and evaluation feedback on work that needs review. Candidates must hold a university degree in community development, project management, development studies, social work or a related field, plus at least two years of experience in community development or facilitation.

Strong training, facilitation and communication skills are essential, as is fluency in English, Kiswahili, Kinyambo and Kihaya and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. RTV seeks organised, flexible self-starters who work independently and in teams, solve problems creatively and stay positive under pressure. The post is full time and based in Kyerwa, with roughly 90 percent travel.
