Program Officer

D-tree International

About this role

D-tree International partners with governments across Zanzibar, mainland Tanzania, and Malawi to strengthen health systems, support frontline health workers, and improve care delivery for millions of people. The Program Officer position is based in Dar es Salaam and supports the implementation of D-tree's programs and activities in Tanzania Mainland. The role is ideally suited to an early-career professional seeking to develop experience in public health programming, digital health solutions, stakeholder engagement, data use, and program operations while contributing to initiatives that improve health outcomes. Core responsibilities centre on programme coordination and implementation, which accounts for approximately 80 percent of the role.

The post holder will support the planning, coordination, and logistics of programme activities, including meetings, training, workshops, and stakeholder engagements involving government counterparts, implementing partners, community health workers, and facility health workers. The role includes supporting field and remote follow-up activities to monitor implementation progress and document challenges, with a focus on non-communicable disease initiatives, the Afya Jamii digital system, and cross-cutting community health programming. Regular review of Afya Jamii dashboards to identify health trends and propose system improvements forms part of the routine workload. The post holder will also support the preparation of monthly and quarterly activity plans, programme documentation, and inputs for proposals, reports, and presentations, and will document lessons learned to support knowledge sharing.

Communication and representation duties include maintaining programme records, coordinating with government and implementing partners, participating in programme meetings, and supporting the development of communication materials in collaboration with D-tree's Communications team. The minimum qualification is a Bachelor's degree in public health, health sciences, social sciences, development studies, or a related field, with two to three years of experience supporting health programmes, community health initiatives, or digital health projects. Prior experience in programme coordination, data collection, reporting, or stakeholder engagement is an advantage. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines are essential.
