About this role

The African Medicines Agency, an institution of the African Union established to strengthen continental health systems and improve access to quality medical products across Africa, invites qualified applicants from AU Member State citizens to apply for the position of Procurement Officer. Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Procurement Officer provides effective end-to-end procurement support to the African Medicines Agency by delivering timely, compliant, and value-for-money procurement services, while contributing to the continuous strengthening of procurement processes in line with African Union regulations and standards. The core responsibilities of the role encompass procurement planning and forecasting, overseeing contract administration and supplier performance monitoring, conducting bid evaluation and managing tender processes, and implementing procurement risk management across all procurement cycles. The post holder is expected to maintain and operate SAP or ERP procurement systems, prepare comprehensive procurement reports and analytics, and coordinate procurement activities across multiple business units, geographical locations, and cultural contexts.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Purchasing and Supply Management, Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Law, Logistics, Public Administration, or a related field, combined with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain management, or contract administration within government institutions, international organisations, development agencies, or large public or private sector entities. An alternative pathway of a Master's Degree with two years of relevant experience is also accepted. Professional certification from bodies such as CIPS, CPSM, or CILT, and prior experience in multilateral or public sector environments, are added advantages. The position is full-time and based in Midrand, South Africa.
