MRV Technical Specialist, NATURE+

World Vision

About this role

World Vision is recruiting a Monitoring, Verification and Reporting (MRV) Technical Specialist to lead the NATURE+ Carbon Project's MRV and data management systems, based at the Mara Area Development Programme in Kenya. The specialist will drive their design and continuous improvement so that greenhouse gas emission reductions and removals are accurately quantified and reported. The post-holder designs and deploys field data collection protocols and tools such as Kobo Toolbox and ArcGIS Field Maps, and supports forest inventories, biomass assessments, socio-economic surveys and permanent and temporary sample plots. The role oversees data collection and analysis, and applies GIS and remote sensing platforms including Google Earth Engine, QGIS and ArcGIS to track land-use change, deforestation and forest degradation.

The specialist develops monitoring plans compliant with Verra VCS and Gold Standard, prepares validation-ready documentation such as project design documents, monitoring reports and evidence packages, and serves as technical focal point for third-party Validation and Verification Bodies, resolving corrective action and clarification requests. Further duties cover QA/QC systems, periodic reporting and capacity building for field teams and partners. Candidates need at least five years of experience developing and implementing MRV systems for forest carbon projects, plus strong expertise in forest inventory, mensuration, carbon accounting, sampling methodologies and biomass measurement. A bachelor's degree in forestry, environmental science, geospatial sciences, climate change or natural resource management is required, along with certification in GIS tools or greenhouse gas accounting.

Preferred attributes include knowledge of international carbon standards such as VCS, Gold Standard and Plan Vivo, familiarity with national carbon market policies, and carbon MRV training. World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organisation with 31,000 staff in nearly 100 countries. The position is a full-time local fixed-term contract open to local applicants only, and the successful candidate must affirm World Vision's core documents and observe conduct compatible with Christian principles. Applications close on 25 October 2026.
