Electrotechnical Technician

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) is seeking a qualified Electrotechnical Technician to support its General Services Section, Registry, in Arusha, Tanzania. Reporting directly to the Supervisor of the Facilities Management Unit, this individual contractor role carries an initial duration of three months with the possibility of extension, subject to the continued availability of funds. The selected candidate will operate and maintain distributed building equipment and systems, performing daily inspections of major building infrastructure including electrical power distribution, centralized and split HVAC systems, water and fire pumps, control systems, generators with ATS backup, UPS systems, firefighting equipment, plumbing, elevators, and solar power installations. Core duties encompass preparing and completing preventive maintenance schedules and reports, preparing requisitions for maintenance supplies, and assisting in identifying potential vendors.
The technician will perform regular plumbing and electrical repairs and basic office equipment repairs such as shredders. Additional responsibilities include welding, forming, and fabrication of metals, as well as minor construction and repairs such as installing partitions, changing locks, and replacing glass. The role also involves evaluating the extent of repairs required, assisting in preparing plans and specifications for work, providing direction to outside contractors, and ensuring construction and repair projects meet required standards. Required qualifications include a high school diploma in a technical field, a minimum of five years of relevant facilities management experience, and demonstrated computer proficiency.
Fluency in oral and written English is required, and working knowledge of Swahili or Kiswahili is desirable. IRMCT is an international judicial institution established by the United Nations Security Council to carry out the remaining functions of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. The position is based in Arusha, Tanzania, and the selected candidate may be required to travel as part of duties. Applications must be received no later than midnight on the stated deadline.
