About this role

WeWorld, an Italian secular and independent organization established in 1971, is seeking a Country Representative to direct its organizational programmes in Tanzania. Present in 29 countries with 128 projects, WeWorld operates across human rights, humanitarian aid, food security, water access, health and hygiene, education, and global citizenship education. The organization works primarily with girls, boys, women, and youth as agents of change, supporting people to overcome emergencies and achieve dignified lives through human and economic development programmes aligned with the 2030 Agenda. WeWorld Tanzania has been active since 2010, implementing school-centered programmes in Dar es Salaam (Temeke and Kinondoni districts) and Ludewa district (Njombe region), reaching nearly 25,000 beneficiaries through a multisectoral approach encompassing education, health, nutrition, protection, and WASH.

The organization is a member of TENMET, the Tanzania Education Network, and maintains partnerships with local NGOs and government authorities through memoranda of understanding. The Country Representative will ensure quality programme delivery in Tanzania from development through execution, overseeing budget management and human resources for both international and national staff. Key responsibilities include supervising the Long Distance Sponsorship Programme (LDSP), leading the development and implementation of the country strategic plan, overseeing grant acquisition to achieve annual targets, guiding project managers on performance and quality control, ensuring compliance with local legislation, managing financial sustainability and procurement, and representing WeWorld to donors, ministries, and local government authorities. The representative will engage national-level stakeholders including government officials, donors, civil society organizations, and networks while identifying strategic partnerships and promoting WeWorld's organizational identity across Tanzania.

The position is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, reports to the Head of Regional Unit, and works in cooperation with the Desk Officer. The role carries a family duty station designation and is required to manage security in the country. Applications must be submitted by 24 July 2026, with an expected start date of ASAP.
