Country Program Manager
About this role
Pure Earth is recruiting a Country Program Manager to lead its toxic pollution and lead poisoning prevention work in Tanzania. The post is based in Dar es Salaam within an international nonprofit that prevents exposure to lead in low and middle income countries by embedding solutions in government systems. The manager reports to the Program Manager, Africa, supervises a Technical Manager and a Finance and Admin Officer, and works closely with headquarters finance, grants, technical, and monitoring and evaluation colleagues. Day to day the role shapes the country programme's strategic direction and oversees work plans, timelines, budgets, resource allocation, partner engagement, and reporting.
It involves implementing field activities with local and national government, partner organisations, and communities, and working with technical experts on source analysis studies, response plans, and exposure mitigation. The manager reviews existing policies and helps develop new regulations on toxic metal management, especially lead, and leads monitoring and evaluation, including data collection on lead exposure and sources. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in environmental science, public health, or a related field, with a master's degree preferred, and five to seven years managing environmental or health programmes, particularly lead pollution and poisoning management. A strong grasp of regulatory issues in environmental health, solid budgeting skills, field experience, and proven team building ability are also required.
Professional fluency in English, authorisation to work in Tanzania, and willingness to travel nationally are essential. Pure Earth is funded through 2033 by the Audacious Project, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and other partners. This full time position is based in a Pure Earth or local partner office in Dar es Salaam, with travel to project sites and a tentative October 2026 start. The annual salary range is USD 35,000 to 50,000.
Applications go through Pure Earth's online career portal and are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
