Associate Programs Director
Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI)
About this Role
The Associate Programs Director provides senior leadership over CHAI Tanzania's entire program portfolio — spanning HIV/AIDS, malaria, vaccines, sexual and reproductive/maternal health, cancer, health financing, medical oxygen, and mental health — reporting directly to the Country Director. Key requirements include a Master's degree in Public Health, Policy, or International Development plus 8–10 years of progressive health program management experience in low- and middle-income countries, strong analytical skills, and fluency in English (Swahili is advantageous). This role is critically important for Tanzania's health systems strengthening agenda, as CHAI works in close partnership with the Ministry of Health and operates one of the most diverse NGO health portfolios in the country. Core responsibilities include establishing and driving programmatic strategy aligned to Ministry of Health priorities, overseeing all program implementation, managing and mentoring Program Managers, leading portfolio reviews, and serving as the primary operational and technical liaison between CHAI Tanzania and CHAI's global program teams. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in multi-program health portfolio management, deep experience working with government health ministries in East or Southern Africa, and strong capacity-building and team leadership skills; Tanzanian nationals and those with prior Tanzania health system experience are strongly encouraged to apply. This is a full-time, nationally based position in Dar es Salaam; contract duration not specified.
