Gender & Inclusion
Youth Engagement Officer
About this role
Plan International is recruiting a Youth Engagement Officer for an anticipated project in Tanga Region, Tanzania, to be implemented in cooperation with GIZ, the Ministry of Health and the Prime Minister's Office for Regional Administration and Local Government. The role ensures that adolescents and young people, particularly young women, have a genuine voice in the design and delivery of activities that aim to strengthen their sexual and reproductive health and rights. The officer provides a youth perspective across all four work packages: youth empowerment through school-based and out-of-school clubs, community engagement with opinion leaders, coordinated social and mass media campaigns, and support to local civil society organisations through a small grants mechanism. Day to day this involves supporting trainings, events, peer-learning formats and extracurricular activities, contributing to the co-creation and review of SRHR messages, training materials and IEC products so that language and formats are youth friendly, and feeding insights on youth realities and barriers into community dialogue processes.
The post holder also participates in monitoring and learning, gathers feedback from young people, documents lessons learned from a youth perspective, and acts as a liaison between the project team and youth participants, upholding safeguarding, inclusion and respectful engagement. Candidates must hold an Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination and have at least two years of engagement in youth-led or youth-focused initiatives such as school or youth clubs, community organisations, advocacy groups or volunteer programmes. Experience developing social media content on youth issues, SRHR, health promotion or gender equality is required, as is knowledge of English. The position is full time, based in Tanga, Tanzania, reports to the Project Manager and is open only to those with the pre-existing right to live and work in Tanzania.
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation advancing children's rights and equality for girls. Applications close on 31 October 2026.
