WASH
Project Officer, WASH and Water Management
About this role
The European External Action Service (EEAS) is recruiting a Project Officer for WASH and Water Management to join its Delegation to Tanzania. This full-time position, graded as Local Agent Group I, is based in Tanzania and forms part of the EU's broader commitment to supporting sustainable development and climate resilience in partner countries across Africa. The EEAS serves as the European Union's diplomatic service, coordinating EU foreign policy, promoting peace and stability, and advancing the EU's interests globally through its network of delegations and representations. In Tanzania, the EU Delegation works to strengthen bilateral relations, support governance reforms, and fund development programmes spanning multiple sectors including water, sanitation, hygiene, and environmental sustainability.
The Project Officer will contribute to the design, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of WASH-related initiatives funded under EU development instruments, ensuring alignment with EU policies, partner country priorities, and international standards. Core functions include managing project activities, liaising with implementing partners and government counterparts, reviewing technical deliverables, and supporting donor reporting and communication efforts. The role requires strong organisational and coordination skills, familiarity with EU project cycle management procedures, and the ability to work in a multicultural diplomatic environment. As a Local Agent, the post-holder will be engaged under local terms and conditions applicable to EU delegations in Tanzania.
A relevant university degree in engineering, environmental science, public health, or a related discipline is required, along with professional experience in WASH programming or water resources management. Fluency in English is essential, and knowledge of Swahili is an advantage. Previous experience working with EU-funded projects, international organisations, or non-governmental bodies is desirable. Applications must be submitted through the EU's official online recruitment portal by 13 July 2026.
Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered. The EEAS encourages applications from qualified candidates regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, or disability.
