Energy
Project Officer, EAC
About this role
The Project Officer provides essential technical and operational support to advance SEforALL initiatives within the East African Community (EAC), with an initial focus on Tanzania. The role coordinates the practical rollout of the Energy Transition and Investment Plan (ETIP) and the Green Manufacturing Policy and Investment Guide. The Project Officer acts as a functional link between regional strategies and national activities, ensuring that project deliverables in Tanzania are executed on time, meet quality standards, and remain aligned with local energy priorities. As a part-time retainer (approximately 10–12 days per month), the incumbent maintains project momentum through stakeholder liaison, data collection, and providing technical assistance to national ministries and regional partners. Core responsibilities include coordinating daily technical activities for the ETIP and Green Manufacturing Policy rollout across the EAC, collecting inputs from local experts to ensure Tanzania's national priorities are reflected in regional frameworks, supporting data validation and progress reporting, and facilitating communication between SEforALL, government agencies (MDAs), and development partners such as the World Bank and African Development Bank. The role requires a bachelor's degree in energy, sustainable development, public policy, or a related field with at least two years of relevant experience in project coordination. Strong understanding of energy transition policy and renewable energy dynamics, experience with government stakeholders, and excellent writing and stakeholder management skills are essential. The position is a retainer contract through UNOPS, home-based with a 12-month duration for up to 120 working days, under the supervision of the Senior Officer, Energy Transition Policy and Governance.
