About this role

Church World Service (CWS), a not-for-profit, faith-based organization providing just and sustainable solutions to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster, is recruiting a Project Assistant for Gender and Nutrition under the WEZESHA Project in Tanzania. The post is based in Makere in the Kasulu area of Kigoma Region and reports to the Project Officer, with regular field engagement across the implementation area. The assistant will help plan and deliver gender- and nutrition-sensitive activities, mobilize communities, run awareness sessions, household visits, trainings, and dialogues, and promote inclusive participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.

The role also supports gender equality, nutrition awareness, dietary diversity, and positive behaviour change, including Social and Behaviour Change interventions; collects and verifies age, sex, and vulnerability-disaggregated beneficiary data; maintains records and reports; liaises with community leaders, refugee structures, local government, and partners; and provides logistical and administrative support for events and field activities. Candidates require a bachelor's degree in gender studies, nutrition, public health, community development, sociology, agriculture, social sciences, or a related field, plus at least two years of paid community-based experience in gender, nutrition, public health, agriculture, humanitarian, development, or refugee-response programming. Strong facilitation, communication, and community engagement skills, accurate data collection and reporting abilities, fluency in English and Kiswahili, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are mandatory.

Prior training or mentoring experience, familiarity with Kobo Toolbox or ODK, and knowledge of humanitarian standards, gender-sensitive programming, safeguarding, and accountability to affected populations are desirable. This full-time, onsite national position is at job grade 3 in Makere, with frequent travel and field conditions, and employment is subject to reference, educational, and criminal background checks.
