About this role

FAO is a specialized UN agency leading international efforts to defeat hunger and achieve food security for all. The FAO Tanzania office provides technical assistance and policy support under the FAO Strategic Framework aligned with the 2030 Agenda. The Procurement Assistant position supports day-to-day procurement operations for the country office. The role coordinates procurement actions including creating purchase requisitions in GRMS, managing supplier documentation, drafting contracts, and handling correspondence. The incumbent monitors purchase orders and contracts, tracks receipt and shipment of goods to beneficiaries, coordinates delivery schedules with international suppliers and Tanzania customs, reviews invoices for accuracy, and maintains procurement plan databases and monitoring reports. Candidates must hold a first-level degree in Procurement, Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Commerce, or a related field, with four years of administrative, accounting, and/or procurement support experience including at least two years specifically in procurement. Working knowledge of English and Swahili at level C is required. A professional qualification from a national procurement body such as PSPTB or an internationally recognized body such as CIPS Level 4, MCIPS, or FCIPS is an added advantage. The position is based in Dar es Salaam under the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative (Administration) with technical guidance from the National Procurement Officer.
