Member of the Executive Board

ACBF

About this role

The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), Africa's leading capacity development institution and a specialized agency of the African Union, invites expressions of interest for membership on its Executive Board. Board members provide strategic governance, fiduciary oversight and mission-based leadership, helping to shape the institution's direction and ensure accountability. The role involves contributing insight on innovative approaches to finance structuring for capacity development interventions, promoting visibility of the Foundation to global stakeholders, supporting resource mobilization, and engaging actively in board deliberations. The Executive Board, appointed by the Board of Governors, carries oversight responsibility for the governance of the Foundation and approves operational policies, procedures and rules.

It is part of a three-tier governance structure that also includes the Board of Governors and the Secretariat, headed by the Executive Secretary who serves as an ex-officio member of the Executive Board. ACBF works across more than 40 member states and focuses its current strategic plan on climate change and energy for productive use, agribusiness and food sovereignty, trade as an engine for economic development, and economic and social governance. This is a voluntary, unpaid position: board members serve a three-year term, renewable for a maximum of two terms, and receive no remuneration, though approved expenditure incurred in discharging duties is reimbursed. The board meets at least three times a year, and members should expect an average time commitment of about 12 hours per month.

The role is based at the Foundation's headquarters in Harare, Zimbabwe, with meetings likely to involve regional and international engagement. Candidates must be willing to commit the time necessary and should have relevant experience in governance, finance, leadership or capacity development. English is required; French is an added advantage. Interested candidates should submit a concise CV to the Board Secretary at board@theacbf.org no later than 2026-09-21.

Qualified female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
