Marine Spatial Data Analyst

About this role

Blue Ventures is seeking a Marine Spatial Data Analyst on a one-year maternity cover contract to provide technical stewardship of the organisation's spatial data system. This role is central to delivering high-quality spatial data, dashboards and decision-support tools that underpin community-based fisheries management programmes across Blue Ventures' coastal sites. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Spatial Ecology, Ecological Data Scientist and the broader Data Science team, ensuring that spatial data infrastructure remains reliable, well-documented and responsive to programme needs. Core responsibilities include spatial data management and database administration, the development of data visualisations and user-centred decision-support tools, supporting marine spatial planning analyses, and engaging with users across field teams, partners and coastal communities.

The post holder will be expected to work both independently, driving their own tasks and team priorities, and collaboratively within a small, interdependent team given Blue Ventures' global, distributed structure. Candidates must demonstrate strong proficiency in spatial data management and analysis, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a passion for applying data to community-led conservation. Strong experience coordinating across regions and cultures is essential, as the role requires flexibility in schedule and mindset, with openness and curiosity when engaging diverse teams and contexts. Occasional international travel to work alongside colleagues, partners and field communities is expected.

The role reports directly to the Head of Spatial Ecology and will be based remotely. The salary range for Tanzania-based staff is 69,143,850 to 135,521,946 TZS per annum, commensurate with experience. Applications close on 8 August 2026 with a proposed start date of 24 August 2026.
