Life Skills Adviser

VSO

About this role

VSO is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes volunteering as a powerful and practical approach to tackling poverty and inequality in some of the world's poorest and most fragile regions. Through its Volunteering for Development approach, VSO puts the most marginalised people first, developing active citizens who drive local community-led change and deliver sustainable development outcomes long after projects end. The Life Skills Adviser is a national volunteer position based in Tanzania, focused on building the capacity of young people to succeed in labour markets and contribute to blue economy value chains. The adviser will design and deliver training programmes that strengthen labour market awareness, develop core employability skills, and build the confidence required for youth to explore income-generating opportunities across blue economy sectors.

The ideal candidate will hold at least a Bachelor's degree in social science, education, or a related field, and must demonstrate direct experience working with youth-led start-ups or small enterprises in a comparable advisory or facilitation role. VSO encourages applications from candidates who reflect the diversity of the communities it serves and promotes equal opportunities throughout its recruitment process. Volunteers receive a living allowance paid in local currency, which is calibrated to meet reasonable living expenses within the host country but is not intended to support dependents or enable remittances. Accommodation arrangements vary and reflect the contexts of the marginalised communities with which VSO works, and should be expected to be modest.

Applications are processed through VSO's online recruitment portal and must be submitted no later than 12 June 2026. The organisation reserves the right to close the vacancy early if sufficient quality applications are received before the deadline.
