About this role

The Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), Arusha Branch, Tanzania, offers a legal internship providing legal counsel on matters related to the Mechanism's ongoing functions, including assistance to national authorities prosecuting war crimes cases, policy development, capacity building, enforcement of sentences and requests for early release, witness protection, and post-conviction litigation. Intern duties include conducting legal research and factual analysis, drafting assistance, cite-checking, and compiling and collating materials. Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a law university degree programme at minimum bachelor's level, or be enrolled in a graduate programme such as a Master's degree or equivalent. No professional work experience is required, though field of study closely related to the internship is mandatory. Good drafting and oral communication skills, computer literacy, and experience handling sensitive or confidential information are required. Previous legal experience and ability to draft legal documents are desirable. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French and Kinyarwanda is desirable. The internship is unpaid, lasting three to six months, with all costs for travel, visas, and accommodation the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, law degree transcripts, a sample of written work of no more than ten pages, and a Preference and Availability Form. No fee is charged at any stage of the recruitment process.
