Learning Consultant

Sightsavers

About this role

Sightsavers is seeking an external Learning Consultant to develop a comprehensive package of learning methodologies, practical tools, and user-friendly guidance materials for its Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team. This consultancy supports evidence-based programming, which is one of nine principles outlined in Sightsavers' programme strategy, and aims to strengthen the organisation's capacity to systematically acquire, interpret, synthesise, and apply knowledge to inform project design and implementation. The consultant will design a coherent methodological framework for project-level learning, including approaches for evidence acquisition, interpretation, translation, and uptake at specific points during the learning cycle such as mid- and end-term evaluations. The consultant will also create a suite of practical tools and templates that operationalise this framework in accessible ways suitable for use by diverse project teams, and produce context-sensitive guidance materials enabling teams to apply methodologies independently within their implementation contexts.

Deliverables include an inclusive learning toolkit covering methodologies, sample tools, learning workshop planning templates, and reporting guides tailored to different learning activities including inclusive learning workshops, desk reviews, and partner review meetings. All materials must follow inclusive and accessible design principles. The consultancy comprises 12 to 16 working days to be completed between July and October 2026, with check-in meetings scheduled by the MEL Head of Operations or MEL Advisor. Candidates must demonstrate advanced knowledge of organisational learning, knowledge translation, and evidence uptake, along with extensive experience designing learning methodologies and analytical frameworks for international development organisations.

Proven ability to translate complex theoretical constructs into practical, user-friendly tools is essential. Strong understanding of adaptive management, project cycle processes, and evidence-to-action pathways in social development contexts is required, along with excellent analytical, conceptual, and writing skills. Experience working on disability inclusion or social inclusion programming is highly desirable, and experience or expertise in using AI software for learning purposes is also desirable. Fluent written and spoken English skills are mandatory.
