About this role

UNICEF Tanzania is seeking an International Consultant to coordinate the publication of a peer-reviewed journal supplement synthesizing evidence from the Improving IMAN initiative and related maternal nutrition research. The consultant will develop the supplement concept note, identify evidence gaps requiring additional manuscripts, and propose authorship structures including guest editor recommendations. The role involves coordinating a multidisciplinary group of authors from government, UNICEF, academia, research institutions, and implementing partners, providing technical advisory support for manuscript development on maternal nutrition, antenatal care-based nutrition interventions, and multiple micronutrient supplementation. The consultant will conduct substantive technical review, editing, and proofreading to ensure academic and journal style standards, and manage the full peer-review and submission process with a selected open-access journal. Deliverables include an introductory overview article, individual peer-reviewed manuscripts, a concluding synthesis and policy implications paper, and a final brief report summarising activities and lessons learned. The minimum requirements include an advanced university degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Epidemiology, Maternal and Child Health, or a closely related field, a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible professional experience in nutrition and/or public health, and fluency in English. Strong technical knowledge of evidence-based maternal nutrition interventions, demonstrated expertise in antenatal care and community-based programming, and a proven track record as lead author or editorial contributor on peer-reviewed journal supplements are essential.
