Global MEL Senior Associate
About this role
One Acre Fund, founded in 2006, equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers across nine countries to make their farms more productive by providing farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, agronomic training, and other agricultural services. The Global MEL Senior Associate is a fixed-term position within the Global Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team that provides dedicated technical depth and cross-country analytical support for a portfolio of 2-3 country programs within the growth country portfolio, currently spanning Tanzania, DRC, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Uganda, Zambia, and Burundi. The role serves as the primary technical resource for country MEL Leads, offering structured guidance, reviewing and strengthening survey instruments and data collection approaches including questionnaire design and programming in CommCare, assessing and improving data quality backcheck processes, reviewing country-level data analysis in Stata for analytical integrity and reproducibility, quality-controlling MEL deliverables, and helping translate data into decision-relevant insights for program teams and leadership. The position also advises on evaluation design with fluency in quasi-experimental approaches and randomized controlled trials, contributes to global MEL standards and shared analytical tools, and may provide dedicated analytical support to the Agroforestry portfolio pending candidate profile. Candidates must have advanced quantitative skills with proficiency in Stata required, demonstrated experience with impact evaluation methods, experience designing and programming surveys for mobile data collection, a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in MEL or applied research, and a master’s degree in economics, applied statistics, agricultural economics, or a closely related field. Professional experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa with smallholder agricultural programs is strongly preferred, and background in agroforestry or forest ecosystem measurement is a significant advantage. Professional fluency in English is required and French is a significant asset. The role reports to a Senior Manager on the Global MEL Team, involves approximately 10 to 25% regional travel, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
