EZ Trainee, Water Resources Management

GIZ is recruiting an EZ Trainee for Water Resources Management through the development cooperation trainee programme funded by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The 17-month training combines three practical phases: after one month of preparation, the trainee spends eight months in Dar es Salaam with the GIZ project Climate Resilience and Water Security in Urban Areas in Tanzania, followed by three months with an international organisation and five months at BMZ. The post holder supports the technical, content-related and organisational implementation of the assignment, contributes to project planning and indicator operationalisation, and advises catchment water boards on managing information for climate-resilient water management. Tasks include accompanying field visits, planning surveys and short studies, designing green infrastructure and nature-based solutions under the EU co-financed Green and Smart Cities SASA initiative, helping build networks and project proposals with the private sector, establishing a GIS data catalogue, supporting knowledge management and Water-Stewardship platforms in Mwanza and Tanga, and preparing contributions, presentations and publications in German and English.

Applicants need a master's degree or comparable qualification in hydrology, geography, environmental sciences or water management with a focus on water resources management, solid knowledge of climate change adaptation, and fluent German and English. Desirable qualifications include familiarity with development cooperation, initial practical experience in a developing country, willingness to change duty stations several times, openness to working in different organisations, and intercultural competence; practical internships are sufficient for these. GIZ implements the BMZ-funded programme to prepare young professionals for German and multilateral development organisations. The full-time position is based in Dar es Salaam, with an assignment period from 1 July 2027 to 30 November 2028, and trainee remuneration is 2,600 euros gross per month.
