Director Strategy and Innovation

About this role

The East African Development Bank (EADB) is recruiting a Director Strategy and Innovation for its Kampala, Uganda office on a full time contract. Reporting to the Senior Director Research Strategy and Innovation, the postholder leads EADB's corporate strategy, ensuring the Bank grows lending, uses capital productively and meets its development mandate, and builds data and analytics capability so decisions rest on reliable evidence. Core duties include leading the midterm review of the 2024 to 2028 corporate strategy, recommending priority countries, sectors and products, and testing growth plans against capital, liquidity and funding limits. The Director translates strategy into funded annual business plans and budgets, tracks strategic initiatives, and runs delivery reviews with senior management.

The role also designs the corporate scorecard, aligns departmental and country office targets, leads development impact measurement covering jobs, small businesses, women, climate and regional integration, and develops the Bank's data strategy and analytics capability. Candidates need a Master's degree in Strategic Management, Organisational Development, Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Statistics, Data Science, Development Studies, Public Policy or a related field, plus a Bachelor's degree. At least 10 years of progressive experience in corporate strategy, strategy delivery or corporate performance is required, with 5 years in senior leadership and business planning in a bank or financial institution. Desirable experience includes multilateral development banks, development finance institutions and strategy consulting, while CFA, ACCA or CPA certification and professional body membership are advantages.

EADB, established in 1967, is owned by Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and other development and commercial institutions and provides development finance across member states. The position is office based in Kampala with occasional regional travel and possible extended hours.
