About this role

CBM (Christoffel-Blindenmission Christian Blind Mission) is seeking a Construction Support Resource to join their programme team in Zanzibar, Tanzania. This two-year fixed-term position supports the Programme Planning and Implementation division by leading the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of CBM's construction projects across the globe, with a primary focus on healthcare facilities, particularly pediatric units. The incumbent will coordinate planning and design processes for medium to large healthcare construction projects, supporting CBM Partner organizations, local architect firms, and CBM Country Offices during implementation phases. Site supervision and progress reporting form a core part of the responsibilities, along with coordinating tendering processes and selecting construction firms.

The post holder ensures compliance with local and international health and safety regulations and standards for accessibility while integrating sustainable, accessible, and cost-effective design practices. Coordination with structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers is required throughout project delivery, incorporating feedback from hospital management, pediatric specialists, and CBM representatives. Candidates must hold a university degree in architecture, construction/civil engineering, or structural engineering with a valid professional license in their respective field. The ideal candidate brings proven experience designing healthcare facilities, preferably pediatric units, and experience with tendering construction services for the public sector, supported by a strong portfolio.

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D modelling tools is an advantage, along with familiarity with local building codes and international healthcare design standards. Previous experience in infrastructure accessibility, universal design, and disability inclusion is also desirable.
