About this role
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Tanzania is seeking six full-time United Nations Volunteers to support the Tanzania School Feeding Project across Lindi and Mtwara regions. This initiative forms part of WFP's Country Strategic Plan for 2022–2027, which supports the Government of Tanzania to achieve equitable and inclusive economic growth through investments in human capital, resilient livelihoods, and nutritious diets. The project is multisectoral, bringing together government focal points for school feeding, nutrition, education, agriculture, and community development to deliver a comprehensive school health and nutrition package. The UNVs will be based in six councils within Lindi and Mtwara regions and will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the WFP Mtwara Field Office, with overall supervision from the Head of Nutrition, HIV and School-Based Programmes. Core responsibilities span School Feeding Governance and Accountability, including support for School Feeding Committees and regular engagement between committees, school management, parents, and local authorities. In Nutrition and Social and Behaviour Change, UNVs will support nutrition-sensitive activities and promote healthy diets and feeding practices. Community and Parental Engagement duties involve documenting contributions such as cash, food, labour, and school garden produce, and encouraging local ownership of feeding activities. Cash-Based Transfer responsibilities include supporting vendor documentation in WFP systems, reviewing LGAs' distribution plans and fund requests, and ensuring procurement of eggs and vegetables follows national e-procurement protocols. Agricultural duties cover monitoring school gardens, tracking agricultural input distribution, and reporting on climate-related activities. Food Safety and Quality work includes monitoring hygiene practices, promoting fortified food consumption, and reporting food safety risks during site visits. The Community Feedback Mechanism component involves supporting visibility campaigns and timely case responses. Monitoring duties cover routine data collection, verification at school level, field visits, use of digital tools, performance tracking, and submitting weekly and monthly reports. Additional responsibilities include capacity strengthening for school committees on data tools and record-keeping, contributing to learning events, and documenting gender roles
