The U.S. Mission in Tanzania is hiring a Carpentry Maintenance Worker for its Facilities Maintenance Office at the Embassy in Dar es Salaam. The job covers scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance and repair work on interior assemblies, furnishings, fixtures, doors, windows, wall and ceiling coverings, floor finishes, sunshades, blinds, fixed furnishings, painting, and glazing across mission buildings and residential properties. Core duties include entering work orders for system and equipment problems and coordinating with work order execution personnel.
The carpenter installs and repairs walls, ceilings, floors, doors, partitions, fittings, and fixed or movable furnishings, ensuring work follows applicable codes and manufacturer recommendations. The post holder answers emergency calls during off-duty hours when safety or structural integrity is threatened, installs and relocates partitions, flooring, panels, suspended ceilings, counter tops, and moldings, and assembles or repairs items with various joining techniques. Duties also cover patching drywall and plaster, repairing mechanical locks, ordering carpentry and painting supplies, and supporting the post safety and health program. Maintenance work includes inspecting, adjusting, and troubleshooting carpentry shop equipment, lubricating machines, changing saw blades, adjusting drive belt tensions, and coordinating with other trades.
The incumbent services hoses, spray applicators, air compressors, motors, lines, and filters, replaces caulking to prevent moisture infiltration, checks smoke barriers and interior pressurization, and prepares condition reports for Overseas Buildings Operations surveys. Logistics duties include recording operational data, completing forms and logs, preparing maintenance and renovation documents, monitoring contractors, and escorting local contractors. The position is permanent and full-time at 40 hours per week in Dar es Salaam, with occasional travel and no relocation expenses. It is a non-supervisory LE-5 role with promotion potential to LE-5 and requires a public trust background investigation.
The salary is TZS 22,193,475 per year. The vacancy is open to all interested applicants and all sources; applications close through the U.S. Mission Tanzania process on 30 October 2026.
