Business Adviser

VSO

About this role

VSO is seeking a Business Adviser (National Volunteer) to provide strategic and technical support for green entrepreneurship and inclusive enterprise development within Tanzania's blue economy sector. This role focuses specifically on empowering youth- and women-led enterprises in project target communities across the country. The Business Adviser will deliver advisory services to small and medium enterprises, supporting the development of business plans, financial models, and market access strategies. The role involves working directly with community-based entrepreneurs to build capacity in financial literacy, business management, and sustainable practices aligned with blue economy principles.

Responsibilities include facilitating training workshops, mentoring enterprise groups, and liaising with local government and private sector partners to create enabling environments for inclusive economic growth. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience working on business development or enterprise support programmes, with demonstrated expertise in engaging youth-led start-ups and small enterprises. VSO is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes volunteering as a powerful and practical approach to tackling poverty and inequality. Through its Volunteering for Development framework, VSO partners with communities in some of the world's most fragile regions to build local capacity and drive sustainable change.

This is a national volunteer position based in Tanzania with a start date of August 2026. Volunteers receive a local currency allowance intended to cover reasonable living expenses, though it is not designed to support sending money home. Accommodation will be basic, reflecting the organisation's work in under-resourced communities. Applications must be submitted by 12 June 2026 through VSO's online recruitment portal.

VSO reserves the right to close the vacancy early if sufficient applications are received, and the organisation does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
